Help Animal Rescue Organizations so that they will be able to continue to provide much needed help for those who rely on their two-footed friends.
You'll see below the
stories that happened during Katrina-Rita. But these stories,
unfortunately, keep recurring each year as extremes of weather cause
severe flooding and fire damage. The needs are the same, and the
organizations that race in to stricken areas to help care for lost and
traumatized pets need our help! |

Animal rescue groups are fighting enormous odds, with facilities badly damaged, monies and supplies almost nonexistent, to serve abandoned pets who are ill, traumatized and lost. They need our help! When you donate through us, we will split funds between the Humane Society of South Mississippi (see below) and SPCA-LA., which is bringing hundreds of pets back to find temporary and permanent housing, and has spent more than half a million dollars on transportation of pets, sending trained teams to the Gulf, medical and other supplies. All donations are tax deductible. And so very needed! |

**Sept. 19 HSSM: In Gulfport, Mississippi, the HSSM has been hard hit by Katrina, its original facilities and vehicles, including items basic to functioning, such as washing machines and refrigerators, were destroyed. Thankfully, the new building they were in the process of moving into is useable, and is to get electricity today, hopefully, according to Director Tara High.Though they need funds to make repairs and complete original construction, the new shelter's overall durability through this cataclysmic storm bodes well for providing relief in future disasters. Most importantly, it has more space and will be able to house many more animals than the original buildings. It will also be able to keep them longer and reduce vet load, through a new air filtration system that prevents PARVO, distemper, kennel cough, etc., and this, plus plans to boost adoptions and an aggressive spay and neuter policies will help the center achieve its five year goal of being able to keep all pets until they can find suitable adoptive homes. On the right you'll see pictures of some of the doggie heroes of Southern Mississippi. Thanks a million times to Gulfport's (formerly New Orleans') Larry Ray -- fellow border collie lover and creator of the "far away dog" and "close up dog" ventriloquism calls -- for these photos, and more to be posted shortly. You can donate to HSSM, through our Pawprints for Katrina Fund [a 501 (c) (3)] by clicking here. Scroll to Select Member, and choose "Pawprints - Katrina Animals" from the drop-down menu. All donations are secure and tax deductible, and badly needed! What else can you do for the Humane Society of South Mississippi?
